Dark City (1998)

A man (Rufus Sewell) wakes to find himself in a hotel. Time has stopped momentarily. The man is told he has been there for 3 weeks. He doesn't remember how he got there or even who he is.

His wife (Jennifer Connelly) has reported him as missing to a detective (William Hurt) who is hot on his trail, believing the man to be the main suspect in multiple murders, but still completely clueless to the situation.

Meanwhile, a psychiatrist (Kiefer Sutherland) has allegedly betrayed his own race to help a race of Strangers track down the man. Little do the humans know that everything they think they remember may not have happened at all.

All this builds to a thrilling conclusion with a battle of MIND BULLETS.

This movie came out in 1998 and was largely overlooked by everyone (including myself). After picking it up at Best Buy for $5.99 (which I recommend you all do), I have decided that this is a downright brilliant film. I'm gonna call it the best science fiction movie I have ever seen, and for 6 bucks, the greatest DVD bargain I've ever gotten.

Not only is it involving and suspenseful, but it raises metaphysical questions about humanity and the like. See it.
